Weight loss treatment hits pharmacy
Press Release
Highest absorption weight loss treatment hits pharmacy
A new weight-loss medical device that has a higher absorption rate than its rivals and can be taken by children as young as 10, has been launched into independent pharmacies in the UK.
Obesimed, already a success within Europe, is an absorbent fibre-based treatment that absorbs up to 50 times its own weight in water leaving dieters feeling full and eating less.
And, with obesity in children a growing concern, this is the first time that pharmacists in the UK have been able to advise parents on how to manage the weight of children over 10 years old.
Its makers say that the active ingredient, OMTEC 19, is the only active ingredient within this category to have been clinically tested.
Matt Jelley, commercial director for the UK distributor, TriMedica said: "Obesimed has an excellent track record within Europe and it has proven to be a success. However, it also offers independent pharmacists across the UK a unique stance.
"While advising on weight-loss programmes they can be confident they are recommending a clinically tried and tested product, offering a product that has an absorption rate above its rivals while underlining their role as a local healthcare leader.
"In addition, it is a great way to cross sell when patients are asking about weight management and it delivers excellent ROI and they will not be in competition with health stores, supermarkets or multiples."
The product does not metabolise and so passes out of the body unchanged while studies have shown that it also reduces blood sugar levels, and can be taken without the unpleasant side effects often associated with certain other slimming pills.
Accompanying the launch will be a vast marketing and educational initiative for pharmacists and assistants while distribution will be channelled through wholesaler Lexon.
